The special committee constituted by the Pakistan Cricket Board to recommend the next coach for the national team might pick a local for the main job with a foreign consultant.

The Chairman of the committee, which will meet today, Intikhab Alam told PTI that so far, the committee had not even decided on the method for short listing or recommending the possible candidates.

“All the talk about foreign coaches and names being mentioned in the media are mere speculation. The committee will meet for the first time on Thursday and decide on a method to select the new coach,” Alam said.

He said the committee would have no issues recommending a foreign coach either.

“The board has given us responsibility for shortlisting and recommending a candidate for the coaching position and we will try to do our best,” he added.

Interestingly one of the committee members, former Test captain Zaheer Abbas has made it clear he is interested in the position if the board make him an offer.

“I am ready to serve the country. I have no issues with that but it all depends on whether the PCB needs me. If the PCB believes I can fulfill the responsibility of being coach I am available for the job,” Zaheer said.
Former Test player Naushad Ali is the third member of the committee while ex-captain Rameez Raja has been given the task of assisting the committee and negotiating with foreign candidates for the position.
