Sangakkara scored 211 during a marathon almost eleven-hour stay while Prasanna made 120 — his fourth century — as Sri Lanka piled on 483 to frustrate Pakistan on the fifth and final day at Abu Dhabi stadium.
A cluster of wickets in the final session, with Umar Gul taking four for 64, left Pakistan with an improbable target of 170 off a maximum of 20 overs, but they called it quits on 21 for one after 10 overs.

Sangakkara finally fell in the last over before tea, when he was trapped leg-before by the part-time leg-spinner Azhar Ali for his first wicket in Test cricket but not before he had frustrated Pakistan for almost two sessions. Sangakkara batted for 651 minutes, faced 431 deliveries and hit 18 boundaries in his epic knock.
With just 25 overs remaining and the match heading towards a draw, Prasanna fell caught behind off paceman Aizaz Cheema but by that time he and Sangakkara had changed the course of the match.
Sangakkara flicked Cheema to fine-leg for his 18th boundary to reach his double hundred after 604-minutes of defiant batting, and punched the air in delight.
A sixth-wicket record

Together with Prasanna, Sangakkara added 201 for the sixth wicket stand, erasing the previous best in Tests between Pakistan and Sri Lanka of 169 between Kamran Akmal and Yasir Arafat at Karachi two years ago.

Sangakkara, 33, has also achieved a personal landmark — he is now third behind Sir Donald Bradman (12) and West Indian Brian Lara (nine) in number of Test double hundreds.

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul Haq employed all possible means but Sangakkara and Prasanna did not serve up any chances in the first three hours. Prasanna reached his hundred with his 11th boundary, an uppish drive off spinner Saeed Ajmal.

In all, Prasanna hit 12 boundaries during his 273-ball knock.

Survival
Resuming at 298 for five, Sri Lanka survived the morning session unscathed as the overnight pair of Sangakkara and Prasanna kept Pakistan's three-pronged pace attack at bay to take their team to 364 for five at lunch.

Airtel Trophy 2nd ODI Scorecard With Highlyghts

India inflicts second heavy defeat on England

TAKING CONTROL: Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir shrugged off the loss of two early wickets to take India to an eventually facile win in the second ODI
Eventually, it turned out to be a no-contest in spite of England doing its bit to bounce back more than once.
Riding on Virat Kohli's unbeaten 112 and his record unfinished double-century stand with Gautam Gambhir, India scored a resounding eight-wicket win with 80 deliveries to spare to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
When the Indian openers, Parthiv Patel and Ajinkya Rahane, returned to the dressing room with just 29 on the board, the Englishmen were obviously entertaining hopes of defending 237 on what is traditionally considered a pitch that does not encourage free-flowing stroke-play. But the two men who grew up as cricketers at the Ferozeshah Kotla obviously know more.
Making light of a modest run-chase, Kohli and Gambhir set the pace for each other on their home ground and turned the visitors into hapless bystanders. Together, they held centrestage for 29.5 overs, and raised a record unfinished 209 to enthral the sparsely-filled stands in the second contest of the five-match series on Monday.
Shaky start
The right-left combination made the English attack look grossly inadequate and sprayed the ball in all directions. Gambhir may have started shakily by getting a couple of lucky boundaries off the edge of his bat, but once he got into the rhythm there was no reprieve for the visiting side. If Gambhir was happy to delectably play square off the wicket, Kohli preferred to play in the ‘V'.
As the scoring picked up pace, Kohli overtook Gambhir in reaching the half-century and later pressed on the accelerator to reach his seventh century in One-Day Internationals.
He also reached the 1000-run mark this year to be third on the list of run-getters in ODIs this year, behind Jonathan Trott and Shane Watson.
Kohli, in fact, had a complete day. He bowled five overs for just 18 runs, took two catches, scored a strokeful century studded with 16 boundaries.
He was lucky to be around to put the finishing touches to the chase after being dropped soon after reaching the three-figure mark. He deservedly walked away with the Man-of-the-Match award!
Gambhir, who smashed 10 boundaries in his unbeaten 84, played his part to perfection. Earlier, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, Ravi Bopara, Samit Patel and Jonny Bairstow raised visions of setting India a fairly challenging total. However, each of these batsmen perished, exposing the English tail. Overall, it was a below-par batting performance that made the Indian bowling look better.
If it was spin that did the damage to England's chase at Hyderabad, pace and swing combined today to keep the visiting team in check. Vinay Kumar's career-best four-wicket haul and Umesh Yadav's two crucial strikes ensured that the start given by Praveen Kumar did not go in vain.
After Praveen and Vinay sent back openers Alastair Cook and Craig Kieswetter with wicket-maidens, Trott was the first English batsman to show that neither the pitch nor the bowlers held any terrors before he played a wee bit casually to an away going delivery from Vinay.
Thereafter, Pietersen and Ravi Bopara raised 73 runs for the fourth wicket.
Samit Patel and Jonathan Bairstow raised 86 runs for the sixth wicket but it proved too little in the end.

Vinay Kumar picks 4 wickets, England make 237

England batsman Graeme Swann is bowled by Vinay Kumar, unseen, during the second one-day International cricket match between India and England in New Delhi, India on Monday.
Paceman R Vinay Kumar produced his best ODI bowling figures with a four—wicket haul as India restricted England to 237 all out in the second cricket one—dayer against India here today.
Electing to bat, the visitors lost both their openers Alastair Cook and Craig Kieswetter for ducks within the first two overs and could never really recover from the early jolts though there were some periods of English fightback at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground.
Karnataka speedster Kumar was the pick of the Indian bowlers with a career—best figure of 9—1—30—4, eclipsing his previous best of 2 for 51 against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 2010.
Most of the English batsmen Kevin Pietersen (46), Samit Patel (42), Ravi Bopara (36), Jonathan Bairstow (35) and Jonathan Trott (34) —— got the starts but could not translate them into big knocks.
The England innings could not have begun on a more disastrous note as they lost both the openers Cook and Kieswetter within the first two overs and without a single run on the board.
It turned out to be a dramatic start to the proceedings as paceman Praveen Kumar evicted England’s captain in the fourth ball of his first over and then Vinay Kumar dealt another blow for the visitors by accounting for Kieswetter in his first over.
Cook perished to a rather poor stroke as he tried to cut a delivery wide outside the off stump and Ravindra Jadeja took a smart catch at point.

Marsh, Hussey put Australia in control

Highlights

Bad light denied Australia's Shaun Marsh a debut century on Day Two of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Kandy.

SCORECARD

Marsh, son of former Australia wicketkeeper Geoff, made an impressive 87 not out from 211 balls as he and veteran Mike Hussey (76no) shared an unbroken stand of 148 to give the tourists control of the match.
The pair's fourth-wicket stand took Australia to 264 for three in response to Sri Lanka's disappointing first innings total of 174 all out.

Having started the day on 60 for nought, Australia lost openers Shane Watson and Phil Hughes for 36 apiece before captain Michael Clarke departed for 13.

That left Australia wobbling on 116 for three but 28-year-old Marsh, batting at three in his maiden appearance, came together with Hussey to steady the ship.

Australia suffered an early setback when Watson was dismissed by the 10th ball of the morning, shouldering arms to a Suranga Lakmal delivery which nipped back and clipped off stump.

Marsh and Hughes settled into a cautious stand of 35 from 17 overs before the latter fell victim to a fine bat-pad catch from Tharanga Paranavitana at short leg. Suraj Randiv was the successful bowler on this occasion.

Clarke reached just 13 before wafting at a wide ball from Chanaka Welegedara, Mahela Jayawardene taking the catch in the slips.

At lunch the tourists had reached 133 for three but the runs began to flow after the resumption.

There were three boundaries and 13 runs off the third over of the afternoon, bowled by Tillakaratne Dilshan, and both batsmen continued to pick off the bad balls when they came.

Marsh, in particular, looked to use his feet as the innings progressed and clipped Prasanna for successive fours to bring up his first 50.

Hussey had to wait longer for his half-century, but moved past 49 after a nervy wait by despatching Randiv through square leg.

At tea the pair had eased the total along to 251 in 87 overs but there were only 25 balls in the closing session - from which came 13 runs - before the light worsened.

After a lengthy wait the umpires called a halt to the day's play, leaving Marsh waiting overnight to ponder his chances of a debut ton.
